Are you where your feet are?
The festive season is almost upon us and it can be pretty full on, can’t it?
Every year Tom and I have three Christmases - two with his side of the family and one with mine. We always host a festive gathering for friends with mulled wine and homemade festive treats, and it’s our wedding anniversary during the week before Christmas too. There’s a lot of travelling involved, as well as making sure gifts are organised, and that we’re eating the occasional vegetable.
I can only imagine how much more chaotic things must be when there are kiddos involved, what with parties, trips to see Father Christmas, and goodness knows what else!
How about you? Do you have lots going on, or will the next few weeks be a little quieter for you?
Either way, I’d love to share a simple piece of advice that can help you experience less stress and more ease during the Christmas period:
Be where your feet are.
When you’re switching off from work and getting ready to navigate the festivities, it’s easy to get in a fluster about the things we didn’t get done and the things we need to do next. To worry about getting stuck in Christmas Eve traffic or making sure your family has the perfect day.
Whatever triggers you at this time of year, be where your feet are.
Instead of worrying about yesterday’s tricky conversation or constantly checking your watch to make sure you miss the traffic, be where your feet are.
Enjoy the company of the people you’re with rather than thinking about where you need to be next.
Immerse yourself in your own experience rather than checking your phone to see what everyone else is doing.
Be where your feet are.
It’s my intention to use those five words as my mantra over the next few weeks. Could you do the same?
Wishing you a very merry Christmas and peaceful new year,
With love,
